Malvern Hills District Council Window Trail

As a part of the celebration for the 125th anniversary of C.S Lewis’s writing of ‘The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe’. Malvern District Council joined up with artist led group Creative Connect to curate a trail of window installations/murals to celebrate and pay homage to the writer, we at Inka Studio Were delighted to take part in this great event!

We were teamed up with the family owned independent bakery, Malvern Bakehouse who are located in the centre of Malvern Link’s hilly high street. Using their window as the canvas for the design. For Jess, the illustrator of the work, The Lion Witch and The Wardrobe has played a huge part within her artist practice, having been fascinated by the books as a child and inspired by the scenery described and illustrated within them, by the famous illustrator, Pauline Baynes. A character in particular was used as the main inspiration for the design, Aslan the lion. When reflecting on what can be used to celebrate the story Jess knew that Aslan would be the perfect character.

The design used a combination of a painted glowing flame within the lampost using acrylic paint and white and gold line work using Posca pens to illustrate Aslan emanating from the lamposts glow. The Gas Lamp and Creative Connect Art Trail was displayed for over three months alongside over 15 local multidisciplinary artists and 40  businesses. Each artist was given a vinyl of the famous lamppost to install within their designs. We loved taking part and will look forward to taking part again in the future!
