Sake.

(Conceptual Brief)

Authentic and traditional Sake in an innovative and rule breaking style of design.

Sake is a fermented rice wine that is over 2000 years old, the deep rooted heritage and history behind it is very rich, this was important not to lose sight of in the development of this brand and design. The use of accurate and traditional Kanji was essential and allowed for some interesting textural and use as a secondary logo mark translating to Sake.

A label design had to be carefully considered; the paper a heavy textured GSM allowed for a traditional hand made paper impression, the black ink to be deep and intense similar to that of Hand pressed Sumi Ink, and the bright hit of red cutting through the bold Sake to catch the eyes inspired by the signature stamps that are common through Japanese documentation to show ownership. This phonetic Spelling of a Japanese work translates to the emption for Joy which is often experience along side Sake and the subsequent meals.

This project involved the meticulous research and sensitivity to a culture that I was not part of, this was extremely rewarding as I was able to learn and develop parts of the design with informed and relevant sensitivity, this resulted in a suitable and appropriate result that would be at home on shelf in a shop or on a table in family or friend meal!
